One in 3 American adults has high blood pressure, according to the American Heart Association. Millions with the condition are unaware they have it, putting them at risk for heart attack, stroke, kidney disease, vision loss and more.

Fortunately, high blood pressure, also called hypertension, can be detected easily through a common test conducted during a visit with your doctor .

In this Mayo Clinic Radio Health Minute, cardiologist Dr. Brian Shapiro discusses an optimal blood pressure reading and offers ideas for getting your blood pressure to that mark.
