Benn Smith, M.D., Mayo Clinic neurologist, explains Contact Heat Evoked Potential Stimulation (CHEPS), a new groundbreaking technique to examine the small diameter nerve fibers in the body that give us information about pain and temperature, and can lead to diagnoses such as nerve problems with diabetes. Until now there were no readily available objective tests to determine how these small diameter fibers were functioning.
