Sitting for long periods of time has been linked to a variety of health problems, including obesity, diabetes and heart disease. That’s the kind of news that might have you looking for ways to change up your work routine.

Some easy ideas include:

  • Standing while talking on the phone or eating lunch
  • Moving certain supplies away from your desk, so you’re forced to walk to the copy room or the trash and recycling bins
  • Walking laps with your colleagues rather than gathering in a conference room for meetings

Transitioning to a standing workstation also can get you on your feet; however there are important things to remember when making this more dramatic change in your workday.

In this Mayo Clinic Minute, Jeff Olsen talks with a wellness exercise specialist from the Mayo Clinic Healthy Living Program about some things to consider before you ditch your desk chair.
