Mayo Clinic Offers Two-day Symposium for Medical Leaders from Around the Globe
ROCHESTER, Minn. — July 20, 2012. In the 1920s, brothers William J. Mayo, M.D., and Charles H. Mayo, M.D., traveled the world sharing their medical knowledge and learning from others. Today, Mayo Clinic continues that tradition with the Mayo Clinic international symposium, entitled "Mayo Clinic's Model: The Mission, Management Principles and Commitment to Putting the Patient First," which will be held Aug. 29–30, 2012.
Mayo Clinic's clinical and administrative leaders will share firsthand experiences with visiting health care leaders from around the world. Mayo Clinic staff will offer tours, presentations and question-and-answer sessions revolving around Mayo Clinic's integrated model of health care delivery.
"This symposium gives us a chance to exchange information with colleagues face to face, and to learn from them some of the challenges and solutions in their own hospitals and clinics," says Mikel Prieto, M.D., medical director of the international symposium. "It's about sharing knowledge across borders in the spirit of what the Mayo brothers started 100 years ago."
Presenters will discuss:
Breakout sessions will include small-group discussions on quality, systems and procedures, a practicum in teamwork, and sustaining innovation. One breakout session will feature a Simulation Center demonstration on how to improve patient-physician communication skills.
Symposium participants should be able to understand English to fully engage in the discussions, but interpreters are available, if needed. A half-day special workshop in Mandarin will be offered on Aug. 31.
