Mayo Clinic Wins National Recognition for Patient Safety
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — July 12, 2012. Mayo Clinic's campus in Florida has received an "A" rating for excellence in patient safety from The Leapfrog Group, a national leader and advocate in hospital quality and patient safety. Leapfrog measures and publicly reports hospital performance through its annual Leapfrog Hospital Survey.
Mayo Clinic's recognition is based on the results of The Leapfrog Group's national survey that measures hospitals' performance in crucial areas of patient safety and quality. The survey is a transparent and evidence-based national tool in which more than 1,100 hospitals voluntarily participate free of charge. The results are posted online. According to Leapfrog, it is one of the most complete pictures available of a hospital's safety and quality. Mayo Clinic in Florida also ranks higher than almost all health care institutions nationwide, regionally, and locally in how patients regard the inpatient care they receive, according to a federal government survey. The government survey, Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems, found that 88 percent of patients who had overnight stays at Mayo Clinic hospital in Florida ranked their experience as a 9 or 10 on a scale of 0–10 — a grade that far surpassed the national average of 68 percent, as well as the 64 percent average for hospitals in Florida. Mayo Clinic in Florida also recently received recognition for its excellence in patient safety practices by a major national consumer publication that ranked it tied for second among Florida hospitals.
