US College Students Recognize Mayo Clinic as an Ideal Employer

ROCHESTER, Minn. — For the ninth year in a row, Mayo Clinic has been named an "Ideal Employer" by U.S. college students, according to a survey by Universum Communications. Nearly 66,000 undergraduates and 4,000 MBA students at U.S. colleges participated in the 2013 survey.

"We are pleased that Mayo Clinic is regarded as a desirable employer among college students in the U.S.," says Shirley Weis, chief administrative officer, Mayo Clinic. "This recognition reflects our commitment to offer our employees the tools they need to expand their knowledge, deliver high-value patient care and build a successful career at Mayo."

Mayo Clinic ranked second among natural science students as their pick for an ideal employer, which is the fourth consecutive year Mayo has held this ranking among that group. Other 2013 rankings for Mayo Clinic include:

  • Liberal Arts students – 19th
  • Engineering students – 51st
  • MBA students – 61st
  • Business students – 66th
  • IT students – 68th

The Universum ranking of ideal employers is based on students' responses to questions about their career expectations, how they perceive companies as employers and what they associate with those employers. Universum monitors trends and collects data to help companies attract, recruit and retain top talent. Employer participation and listing in the survey is not purchased or applied for; rather, only student nomination can result in an employer listing.
