ROCHESTER, Minn. — The Mayo Clinic Board of Trustees welcomed Charlie Tomm as a new member during its quarterly meeting today.
Tomm is president and chief executive officer of The Brumos Companies, Jacksonville, Fla. The Brumos Companies include Porsche, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, Sprinter and Smart dealerships in Jacksonville and Orange Park, Fla., as well as collision centers. Tomm also serves as a director of Florida Bank Group in Tampa.
Prior to entering the retail automobile industry in 1994, he was an investment banker, held executive and legal positions in the oil field services and trucking industries, and was an adjunct law professor at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Tomm began his professional career as an associate attorney at Winthrop, Stimson, Putnam & Roberts (now Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman), New York. From 1968-72, he served as a diver and officer on the Navy's only troop carrying submarine at the time, USS Grayback (LPSS 574).
His community service includes being a trustee for Washington and Lee University, Lexington, Va; chairman and commissioner, Jacksonville Housing Authority; director, HabiJax (Habitat for Humanity); director, Boselli Foundation; and lacrosse coach, The Bolles School. He is married to the former Anita deSaussure and has three children.
