ROCHESTER, Minn. — June 20, 2012. The public is invited to enjoy four Rosemary and Meredith Willson Harmony for Mayo Program concerts in July. The outdoor performances will be on Mondays from 12:10 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the Rochester Peace Plaza, corner of First Street SW and First Avenue SW. In case of poor weather, the concerts will move to Barbara Woodward Lips Atrium, subway level, Charlton Building, 10 Third Avenue NW. The schedule is: July 9: The Tex Pistols Band will perform country rock. The band formed in 1986 and toured extensively in the Midwest before disbanding in 1990, then reforming in 2007. Their eclectic music is reminiscent of Neil Young, Steve Earle and Steve Winwood, with a little mix of some Eagles and the Beatles. Their latest album is "Hold On," released in 2011. Band members include Brian Peters on electric guitar, pedal steel guitar and dobro; Dik Shopteau on bass and vocals; Scott "Scooter" Nelson on vocals, drums and percussion; and Boyd Lee on vocals and acoustic guitar. These unique musicians have collectively shared the stage with Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Beach Boys, Tina Turner, Clint Black, Average White Band, Sammy Hagar and Ronnie Milsap. July 16: The George Maurer Trio will perform jazz. Maurer, one of Minnesota's premier jazz pianists, has been performing solo since 1986. He's also played with Eric Clapton, the Chiffons, Fabian and Buddy Holly's original band, The Crickets. Maurer is an accomplished producer and composer whose repertoire also includes ballet, pop rock concerts and gospel choir productions. His latest solo release is "Songs from the Wayward Journey." Maurer's jazz trio features Muggsy Lauer on guitar and vocals and Jeff Engholm on bass. Their most recent recording is "Groovits," released in 2004. July 23: Singer, songwriter and guitarist Trent Romens will perform blues. Since age 11, Romens has been playing and learning from the music of artists such as Bob Marley, Bob Dylan, the Allman Brothers and the Grateful Dead. Early in his teens, he was jamming with the best of the Twin Cities blues players. At 19, he headlined his own band. His 2011 debut solo album, "Aware," was on the Grammy Entry List for Best Blues Album. July 30: Davina and The Vagabonds will perform blues, jazz and soul. Davina Sowers, a Florida native, plays an average of 300 shows a year. She was raised in a musical family and has been performing since age 5. Sowers has shared the stage with Little Feat, Buddy Guy and the Original Blues Brothers Band. The Star Tribune describes her voice as part Bonnie Raitt and Etta James, with a little mix of Amy Winehouse. Band members include Michael Carvale on the upright bass, Alec Tackmann on drums, Dan Eikmeier on trumpet and Ben Link on trombone.
