“POTS is the nickname for postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. This is a condition with which the involuntary (autonomic) nervous system fails to adequately control blood flow, especially when changing positions. Adolescents with POTS usually have chronic fatigue, dizziness, and discomfort (often headache and/or abdominal pain/nausea, but any sort of pain can be seen). Treatment involves changing the dietary intake (more fluids and more salt), getting regular aerobic exercise, and medications. Most teenagers with POTS improve and eventually fully recover.
