- Trans fats are on the way out. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given food manufacturers three years to phase out artificial trans fats from the U.S. food supply. The FDA says the move is expected to reduce coronary heart disease and prevent thousands of fatal heart attacks each year. Mayo clinic dietician Katherine Zeratsky helps us understand the differences in dietary fats and what this ban on trans fats means to you.
