A Meeting of the Minds, For the Minds

With eight national championships and more wins than any other NCAA basketball coach, former University of Tennessee coach Pat Summitt is no stranger to standing ovations. But none may have been as heartfelt as the one she received at the Meeting of the Minds Dementia Conference in St. Paul, Minn., Saturday. (Summitt was accompanied by former player Michelle Marciniak.) The former coach was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's in 2011 and retired the following year. Known for her fire and passion on the court, now she's using that same fire and passion against this knew opponent.

Mayo Clinic and the Alzheimer’s Association Minnesota-North Dakota Chapter teamed up once again to host the conference for people with mild cognitive impairment or early dementia, families, friends and professionals. There are more than 1,300 participants, 70 sponsors and exhibits at the event, and nearly 30 doctors, caretakers and speakers. Full list of presenters.
