• Mayo and Harvard: National Standards Needed for Genomic Medical Data

The breakneck pace of genomic discoveries has ushered in a new problem in the delivery of personalized medicine: comprehensive and consistent data reporting that will improve health information technologies for better patient care. Christopher Chute, M.D., Dr.P.H., of Mayo Clinic, and Isaac Kohane, M.D., Ph.D., of Harvard Medical School, summarize the health information technology landscape and examine how it can contribute to or hamper the promise of genomic medicine in an overview that appears in Journal of the American Medical Association. Dr. Chute says, “We need more standards in how these discoveries are recorded and collated. This fosters comparable and consistent data that improves the application of health information technology for better patient care.”
