Mayo Clinic honors the service, friendship of Sen. John McCain

Sen. John McCain passed away on Saturday, Aug. 25, at the age of 81 at his home in Arizona. The news led to tributes and condolences from across the globe in memory of the senator who touched the lives of countless people. In response to this news, John Noseworthy, M.D., Mayo Clinic's president and CEO, and Wyatt Decker, M.D., vice president, Mayo Clinic, issued the following statements to honor his service and friendship in support of Mayo Clinic.
Our hearts go out to the family of Sen. John McCain and the people of Arizona. He was every bit a statesman as he was a kind, no-nonsense, and authentic human being. We had the privilege of working closely with Sen. McCain over the years to address issues of great importance to the health and well-being of Arizonans and all Americans. We saw firsthand his deep commitment to serving our country, his courage in personal and professional pursuits and the true compassion that set him apart. It was our privilege to know Sen. McCain as a patient and a community partner, and we are thankful for his enduring example of putting the needs of others before his own.
