Mayo Clinic Minute: Push to Boost HPV Vaccine

Oncologists are at the front line of providing cancer care, and a push by the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) to promote human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination is underway. HPV, which is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the U.S., is linked to a number of cancers, including almost all cervical cancers. ASCO says HPV is 100 times more infectious than HIV; yet, the the use of HPV vaccination in the U.S. is low.
A number of national health care organizations are joining ASCO in urging physicians to recommend their patients be vaccinated against HPV.
