National Nurses Day: Not all heroes wear capes

Not all heroes wear capes. Some wear scrubs, protective equipment and step out in difficult times to be there for others.
As COVID-19 continues to spread and people heed notices to socially distance themselves and hunker down in their homes, there still are those who on the front lines helping to fight the disease. These are the unsung heroes, and there are thousands of them at Mayo Clinic.
In Rochester, nurses from inpatient and outpatient settings, as those pictured above, have been staffing the drive-through COVID-19 testing center at Mayo Family Clinic Northwest. They've built safe and efficient processes, ventured out in cold and windy weather, and worked extra hours.
"The positive can-do energy and camaraderie of the team and their leadership is something Mayo Clinic should be incredibly proud of," says Sarah Crane, M.D., medical director, Primary Care in Southeast Minnesota. "They truly exemplify why nurses lie at the heart of patient care in our teams. They are our heroes."
