Genomics for All of Us
The Mayo Clinic Center for Individualized Medicine welcomes Josh Denny, M.D., CEO of the National Institutes of Health's All of Us Research Program, as a guest speaker on May 2.
Dr. Denny will present on the All of Us Research Program, a historic effort to collect data from at least one million participants who reflect the diversity of the U.S. and make this data broadly available to registered researchers.
"Mayo Clinic has been an integral partner to All of Us from the beginning, serving as our biobank since 2016," says Dr. Denny. "The powerful combination of electronic health records, participant-provided data, and genomics is what makes All of Us a unique force. I'm excited for this opportunity to discuss with the research community at Mayo Clinic how they can continue to leverage All of Us data to drive scientific breakthroughs for decades to come."
In 2016, the NIH awarded Mayo Clinic funding to serve as the program's biobank. Since May 6, 2018, when the NIH opened national enrollment for All of Us, more than 10 million cumulative participant biosamples, including blood, saliva, and urine, have been stored for research purposes at Mayo Clinic. This month, the program marks its fifth anniversary.
In addition, All of Us is using Mayo Clinic's biobank infrastructure established for All of Us to support Nutrition for Precision Health, powered by the All of Us Research Program. This study opened for enrollment in March and will recruit a diverse pool of up to 10,000 participants from All of Us to form more personalized nutrition recommendations. The project aims to develop algorithms to predict individual responses to food and dietary routines.
Dr. Denny has been involved with All of Us since its inception. He was a member of the Advisory Committee to the NIH Director Precision Medicine Initiative Working Group, which developed the program's initial scientific blueprint. He then led the program's initial prototyping project and the All of Us Data and Research Center. Dr. Denny was named CEO of the All of Us Research Programin January 2020.
The All of Us Research Program biobank at Mayo Clinic is funded by National Institutes of Health award U24OD023121.
All of Us is a registered service mark of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS).
