Hispanic Magazine Rates Mayo Clinic a Top Employer in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math

ROCHESTER, Minn. Aug. 13, 2013 — Hispanic Network Magazine has named Mayo Clinic among the top institutions for employing Hispanics in science, technology, engineering and math. Earlier this year the magazine selected Mayo as a top hospital for Hispanics. The latest listing appears in the publication's Best of the Best issue this month.

In a letter announcing the award to Mayo Clinic, Hispanic Network Magazine described its goal to create an environment of teamwork in which Hispanics and other minorities have access to all applicable business and career opportunities.

"Your (Mayo's) outstanding efforts toward this goal make you a leader in the quest for true diversity, and we commend you," says editor Amy Maclean.

"We are pleased at this recognition of our efforts to be an inclusive workplace, but also one that emphasizes the strength of our career paths in the medical sciences and technology," says Sharonne Hayes, M.D., Mayo's Director of Diversity and Inclusion. "Whether in research and biomedical engineering, medical technology or informatics, the opportunities are many and meaningful."

In addition to employment, Mayo encourages Hispanic enrollment in its College of Medicine and has expanded its patient outreach through Spanish-language websites, news releases, videos such as Historias Mayo, and physician and patient publications.

Hispanic Network Magazine's annual review rates employers, initiatives, government agencies and educational institutions. Mayo Clinic was selected from among roughly 250 companies and organizations.
