Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the United States and the leading cause of serious, long-term disability in adults. According to the National Stroke Association nearly 800,000 Americans will suffer a stroke this year and some studies indicate up to 80 percent can be prevented through risk factor management.

Dr. Kevin Barrett, co-director of Mayo Clinic Florida’s Comprehensive Stroke Center, says the key to surviving a stroke is awareness and quick medical attention.

Interview clips with Dr. Barrett are available in the downloads above.
