Mayo Clinic Announces Four Performances in August for the Rosemary and Meredith Willson Harmony for Mayo Program.
ROCHESTER, Minn. — The public is invited to enjoy four Rosemary and Meredith Willson Harmony for Mayo Program concerts in August. Performances will be on Mondays from 12:10 to 1 p.m. in Rochester Peace Plaza,. The rain location for all events will be Barbara Woodward Lips Atrium, subway level, Rochester Methodist Hospital, Charlton Building, 10 Third Ave. NW.
The schedule is:
Aug. 5: Salsabrosa will perform Afro-Cuban and Latin dance and music. One of the premier salsa acts in the Midwest, Salsabrosa entertains with its explosive rhythms and horn solos at weddings, events and festivals throughout the region. Frank Rivery Garcia, vocalist and conga player, and Angel Perez Delgado, pianist, vocalist and guitarist, lead the band in an extensive repertoire of Latin styles from bachata to bolero.
Aug. 12: John Smith will perform a folk concert. This singer/songwriter powerfully explores and reflects upon the mystery of individual life journeys in his six albums. His unforgettable lyrics bring a spirit of soulfulness to audiences around the world.
Aug. 19: Lehto & Wright will perform a Celtic and American folk concert. Contemporary interpretations of Irish, English and American folk traditions fill five critically-acclaimed albums from Steve Lehto on guitar, mandolin and vocals and John Wright on guitar and vocals. Matt Jacobs often joins the group on drums to push the boundaries of Celtic rock.
Aug. 26: Six Mile Grove will perform an Americana and roots rock concert in Peace Plaza. Rain location will be Lips Atrium. Minnesota natives Brandon & Brian Sampson, Dezi Wallace and Barry Nelson have toured and recorded with guitarist Bob Wootton, who performed with the legendary Johnny Cash, and have released six albums in their 15 years together. Audiences will hear influences of Minnesota music's founding fathers, from Bob Dylan to The Jayhawks, in the unique sounds and themes of their performances.
Sponsored by Mayo Clinic Center for Humanities in Medicine, the Rosemary and Meredith Willson Harmony for Mayo Program is coordinated by the Choral Arts Ensemble of Rochester. The series is generously funded by the late Rosemary Willson in memory of her husband, Meredith Willson, who wrote the Broadway musical "The Music Man." The gift is made in gratitude for the couple's care at Mayo Clinic.
