Mayo Clinic Monitors Athletes On Mt. Everest
Extreme athletes who can summit Mt. Everest have more in common than you might think with people who suffer from heart failure. Mayo Clinic researchers say climbers or anyone exposed to extreme altitudes suffer some of the same physiological changes as those patients.
So Mayo is teaming up with National Geographic, The North Face, Montana State University and a group of extreme climbers to monitor their ascent of Everest. Discovering how the body responds to high altitude could help develop new ways to treat disease. [TRT 2:17 ]
