Mayo Clinic Named One of Best Employers for Promoting Healthy Lifestyles
Mayo Clinic is among 62 employers nationwide receiving the Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles award, sponsored by the National Business Group on Health. Mayo Clinic is receiving the Platinum Award for the third time. This is the eighth year Mayo Clinic has been recognized as an employer promoting healthy lifestyles since the program began in 2005.
"Mayo Clinic is honored to again receive this award," says Karen Ytterberg, M.D., chair of the Wellness for Mayo Employees Committee. "This award reflects the commitment and dedication of several groups at Mayo who work to provide quality information and tools to help our employees achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle."
Mayo Clinic has many health promotion programs that help employees achieve the best quality of life possible, including programs related to individual health situations.
Programs and activities at the Mayo Clinic Dan Abraham Healthy Living Center, Employee and Community Health initiatives and LiveWell health resources work together to focus on healthy lifestyle choices and help employees connect with the appropriate programs, tools and support. These include on-site resources and programs at Mayo Clinic employee wellness facilities, nutrition education, the Wellness Champion program, employee food services, health fairs, the Employee Assistance Program, the Nicotine Dependence Center, and collaboration with community health and wellness organizations.
Employees have access to an online Health Risk Assessment, personalized wellness coaching and tobacco cessation counseling by phone, a 24-hour nurse line, Web-based resources and print communications. Mayo Clinic also provides these services, along with health plan and pharmacy benefit management, to employees at other companies through its commercial client offerings.
The National Business Group on Health, a nonprofit organization of large employers, initiated the Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles award to acknowledge employers that work to improve their employees' health and quality of life. The program encourages all employers to provide the resources employees need to be healthy.
