Mayo Clinic names G. Anton Decker, MBBCh, to lead international engagement
ROCHESTER, Minn. — G. Anton Decker, MBBCh, has been named president, International at Mayo Clinic. Dr. Decker will report to Gianrico Farrugia, M.D., Mayo Clinic president and CEO, and will have enterprise-wide responsibilities leading Mayo Clinic's international activities.
Dr. Decker, a gastroenterologist, practiced at Mayo Clinic for nearly nine years before leaving to pursue additional leadership experiences. Most recently, Dr. Decker served as president of health innovation at Bon Secours Mercy Health, an international health system of 48 hospitals and 60,000 employees, including 2,500 physicians and advance practice clinicians. He was responsible for strategic partnerships with a focus on data and digital innovation. His prior positions include chief clinical officer at Mercy Health; president of Mercy Health Physicians; chief medical officer of Banner Medical Group; and chair of the board for Banner Health Network, Banner's accountable care organization.
"Dr. Decker has lived our values and culture as a previous Mayo Clinic leader, and we are truly fortunate to have him back with us," Dr. Farrugia says. "This experience is complemented by his accomplishments outside of Mayo Clinic."
Dr. Decker attended medical school at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. He is a member of the Royal College of Physicians in London and holds a master's of health administration degree from the University of Phoenix.
Dr. Decker will join Mayo Clinic in October and will initially be based in Rochester.
