Mayo Clinic recognized for disability inclusion
Mayo Clinic recently received the highest possible score on the Disability Equality Index and was named a "Best Place To Work For Disability Inclusion" by the American Association of People with Disabilities and Disability:IN.
Disability is a part of the human experience, crossing all boundaries, including age, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, race, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status and other demographics. Globally, people with disabilities represent 1.3 billion individuals.
"Mayo Clinic’s dedication to accessibility for both patients and employees goes beyond policies and practices," says Paula Menkosky, Chief Human Resources Officer. "It's woven into our values and the daily interactions we have with one another.”
The Disability Equality Index is the world’s most comprehensive benchmarking tool for Fortune 1000 companies, evaluating disability workplace inclusion within organizations and assessing performance across industry sectors.
For the past eight years, Mayo Clinic has actively participated, consistently achieving a top score of 100 and reflecting the implementation of innovative disability inclusion practices featured in the Disability Equality Index.
The 2024 Disability Equality Index survey measured:
- Culture and leadership.
- Enterprise-wide access.
- Employment practices, including benefits, recruitment, education, retention and advancement, and accommodations.
- Community engagement.
- Supplier diversity.
- Responsible procurement.
"Achieving a top score reflects our unwavering commitment to enhancing our processes and forward-thinking disability inclusion initiatives," says Anjali Bhagra, M.D., medical director of the Office of Equity, Inclusion and Diversity. "This achievement is about continuous improvement for our staff."
