    Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine to host USA Nordic team

MINNEAPOLIS – Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine will hold a community event with USA Nordic athletes at Mayo Clinic Square. As the team’s official medical provider, Mayo provides USA Nordic athletes with medical care, physiological testing, performance training and nutrition education.

The event is free and open to the public.

WHO:

  • Jonathan Finnoff, D.O., medical director, Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine at Mayo Clinic Square, and head team physician, USA Nordic combined (ski jumping and cross-country skiing)
  • Billy DeMong, executive director, USA Nordic; five-time Olympian, and winner of Olympic gold and silver medals in Nordic combined
  • Kevin Bickner, 2018 Olympian in ski jumping

WHAT:

DeMong and Bickner will share their individual and team experiences as elite athletes. Dr. Finnoff will discuss the new collaboration between USA Nordic and Mayo Clinic, the team’s official medical provider. The trio will take questions from the audience. Finally, two USA Nordic athletes will demonstrate tests that Mayo experts use to assess the athletes’ physiological condition: V02 max, which measures aerobic fitness; field testing, which measures strength, power and balance; and functional movement, which measures coordination and mobility.
