Wearable technologies are becoming more and more popular. Add to the mix digital health apps and there's a trove of data being translated into meaningful health information for users, physicians and researchers. Explore the emergence of these digital tools in individualized medicine in this episode of Mayo Clinic's "The Pursuit of Precision: The Science Advancing Individualized Medicine" podcast.

Cathy Wurzer, a broadcast journalist from Minnesota Public Radio, talks with two noted experts in the field of digital health-enabled genomics.

 Guests are:

"I think one can safely say we are at the threshold of a transformative era in medicine. I think that big data is on us, whether it be genomic or whether it be in the electronic health record. Combine that with digital tools and the huge amount of data that one could get on an individual from a wearable, how do we combine all of that to improve a prediction of a disease or to make treatment targeted to reduce adverse events?" – Dr. Kullo

  • Yvonne Bombard, Ph.D., director genomics health services research program at St. Michael's Hospital Unity Health in Toronto

"I think that an unfortunate silver lining of the pandemic is that we're now ripe for these kinds of transformations, whether it's virtual care or digital care. With the recognition of the inequities, we're finally at a space to acknowledge that and work in a collaborative fashion toward advancing both access to healthcare and genomics services, as well as the quality of care that we provide."
