• Registration opens for Mayo Clinic Symposium on Regenerative Medicine and Surgery 2021

This year's event will be held in person Nov. 4–7 at the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort & Spa in Phoenix, with options for viewing recorded presentations online and viewing select talks live.

Mayo Clinic's Center for Regenerative Medicine is advancing this innovative field by educating current and future scientists and health care providers. The Mayo Clinic Symposium on Regenerative Medicine & Surgery is an opportunity to learn about this emerging area of health care from experts in regenerative immunotherapies, oncology, dermatology, surgery, cardiovascular medicine, neurosciences, orthopedic medicine and transplant. Conference attendees may earn 15.25 continuing medical education credits.

Notable world-renowned experts in regenerative medicine who will speak include:

  • Julie Allickson, Ph.D.
    Dr. Allickson is the Michael S. and Mary Sue Shannon Director of Mayo Clinic's Center for Regenerative Medicine and the Otto Bremer Trust Director, Biomanufacturing and Product Development, Center for Regenerative Medicine, who will speak on the latest innovations in commercializing biotherapeutics. Dr. Allickson share her expertise from more than 25 years of experience in clinical translation of cellular therapies and regenerative medicine products.

  • Helen Blau, Ph.D.
    Dr. Blau is director of the Baxter Laboratory for Stem Cell Biology and professor, by courtesy, of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Stanford Medicine. She will speak on reversing aging and research in the area of stem cell renewal and extending health span. Her research interest is in mechanisms that underlie changes in muscle stem cell function in aging, dystrophy and diabetes.

  • Georg Duda, Ph.D.
    Dr. Duda is director of the Julius Wolff Institute for Biomechanics and Musculoskeletal Regeneration at Charité ― Universitätsmedizin Berlin. He will lead a session on regenerative medicine and aging. Dr. Duda is an engineer and one of three founding directors of the Berlin-Brandenburg Center for Regenerative Therapies. His research interest is the interplay between biology and mechanics that defines tissue formation in organogenesis and healing.

  • Fiona Watt, Ph.D.
    Dr. Watt is director of the Centre for Stem Cells & Regenerative Medicine, King's College London, and director of Wattlab. She will speak on her research in skin regeneration and wound healing. Dr. Watt's research focuses on how the differentiated state of adult tissues is maintained. She is particularly interested in the interplay between intrinsic and extrinsic factors in the regulation of the cell fate decisions.
