• Mayo Clinic Announces Four Performances in June for the Rosemary and Meredith Willson Harmony for Mayo Program

ROCHESTER, Minn. — The public is invited to four Rosemary and Meredith Willson Harmony for Mayo Program concerts in June. Performances will be on Mondays from 12:10 to 1:00 p.m. in Peace Plaza unless otherwise indicated. Rain location for all events will be Barbara Woodward Lips Atrium, subway level, Rochester Methodist Hospital, Charlton Building, 10 Third Ave. NW.

The June schedule:

June 3: Monroe Crossing will perform a bluegrass concert. This Minnesota-based group includes Derek Johnson: guitar, lead and harmony vocals; Lisa Fuglie: fiddle, mandolin, lead and harmony vocals; Matt Thompson: mandolin, fiddle and baritone vocals; Mark Anderson: bass and bass vocals; and David Robinson: banjo. In 2007, the group's blend of classic and gospel bluegrass earned them induction into the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame. They have released 13 CDs and one DVD.

June 10: Davina and the Vagabonds will perform a jazz, blues and soul concert. Led by Davina Sowers, Davina and the Vagabonds invoke Bonnie Raitt, Etta James and Amy Winehouse with a rollicking New Orleans flavor. With four albums and several awards to their credit, Davina and the Vagabonds play over 300 shows per year and have performed with Los Lonely Boys, Aaron Neville, Pinetop Perkins and many others.

June 17: Claudia Schmidt will perform a jazz and folk concert. Her powerful vocal performances combine rich poetry and adventurous artistry for shows that the San Francisco Bay Guardian has described as "a lot like falling in love." Thirty years, 16 albums and appearances on "A Prairie Home Companion" lend depth and dimension to her unique work.

June 24: The Honors Choirs of Southeast Minnesota will perform a musical review. The Honors Choirs is a nonprofit organization of four auditioned youth choirs for singers in grades three through 12. Honors Choirs is in its 21st season. Its mission is to promote the highest standard of excellence in the preparation and performance of choral music, while seeking to provide artistic challenge and growth opportunities for youth throughout the region and enjoyment for the community at large. This year, the choirs include more than 240 singers from 23 communities and 50 schools throughout southeastern Minnesota.

Sponsored by Mayo Clinic Center for Humanities in Medicine, the Rosemary and Meredith Willson Harmony for Mayo Program is coordinated by the Choral Arts Ensemble of Rochester. The series is funded by the late Rosemary Willson in memory of her husband, Meredith Willson, who wrote the Broadway musical "The Music Man." The gift is made in gratitude for the couple's care at Mayo Clinic. More information can be found online.
