Guthrie Joins Mayo Clinic Care Network
SAYRE, Pa. — Guthrie and Mayo Clinic announced today that Guthrie has joined the Mayo Clinic Care Network, a national network of health care providers committed to better serving patients and their families through collaboration.
Guthrie, the first health care organization based in Pennsylvania and New York to join the network, will be its 36th member. The formal agreement gives Guthrie access to the latest Mayo Clinic knowledge and promotes physician collaboration that complements local expertise.
“Joining the Mayo Clinic Care Network was a natural fit for Guthrie, and we feel it makes sense for both our organizations,” says Joseph Scopelliti, M.D., president and CEO, of Guthrie. “We share a history with Mayo Clinic, as Guthrie was modeled after Mayo when Dr. Guthrie returned here from his residency training in Rochester, Minnesota, over 100 years ago.”
“As health care has continued to become more complex, Guthrie saw the value of working together with a nationally known provider to allow us to be a maximally flexible organization able to respond quickly to the health care needs of our patients now and in the future,” Scopelliti says. “We pursued a relationship with Mayo Clinic because we share that integrated model of care and because our values and philosophy are so closely aligned.”

- Patient education materials
Guthrie providers also have access to Mayo’s extensive library of patient education materials, and can view archived grand rounds that feature presentations by Mayo physicians and scientists.
“We’re very pleased to welcome Guthrie to the network,” says David Hayes, M.D., medical director, Mayo Clinic Care Network. “This relationship gives us the opportunity to build on our uniquely similar cultures. We are expanding on a collaborative approach to medicine that is innovative, yet deeply familiar to both organizations.”
Scopelliti adds, “Working with other medical providers to provide the best possible care for patients has always been part of Guthrie’s culture. This relationship enhances that model, so our patients can get the benefit of collaboration with Mayo Clinic specialists for complex cases without traveling to Mayo and the cost of an additional visit.”
Guthrie is a multispecialty group practice founded in 1910 by Donald Guthrie, M.D. Throughout its history, Guthrie has strived to improve the health and well-being of its communities through patient centeredness, teamwork and excellence.
Guthrie and other members of the Mayo Clinic Care Network remain independent, but share Mayo’s commitment to improve the quality and delivery of health care. Launched in 2011, the Mayo Clinic Care Network has more than 35 member organizations in the U.S., Mexico, Puerto Rico and Singapore.
