Mark Warner, M.D., Named Mayo Clinic Juanita Kious Waugh Executive Dean for Education
ROCHESTER, Minn. — August 6, 2012. Mark Warner, M.D., has been named the new Juanita Kious Waugh Executive Dean for Education at Mayo Clinic. He succeeds Terrence Cascino, M.D., who has served as the executive dean for education since 2005. Dr. Warner will assume his responsibilities on Aug. 1.
In his new role, Dr. Warner will create and implement a plan that ensures excellence and innovation in scholarly activity in alignment with Mayo Clinic's strategic and operating plans. He will lead and manage education at Mayo Clinic, including the College of Medicine, in partnership with the education administration department chair, Paula Menkosky. Mayo Clinic educates medical and science professionals through five schools: Mayo Medical School, Mayo Graduate School, Mayo School of Health Sciences, Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education and Mayo School of Continuous Professional Development.

Dr. Warner joined the Mayo Clinic staff in 1983 as a physician in the Department of Anesthesiology. He became a professor in the College of Medicine, Mayo Clinic, in 1995, chaired the Department of Anesthesiology from 1999 to 2005, was appointed dean of the Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education in 2006, and in 2009 became the Walter and Leonore Annenberg Professor of Anesthesiology in Honor of Daniel R. Brown, M.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Warner is a prolific author, researcher and educator whose interests focus on surgical outcomes and epidemiology and quality assessment of anesthetic care. He has served as president of the American Board of Anesthesiology and the American Society of Anesthesiologists. He is also an editor of Anesthesiology, his specialty's primary journal.
