MinnesotaMayo Clinic Alzheimer’s Disease Expert Ronald Petersen, M.D., to Participate in Release of National Alzheimer’s Plan at NIH

WHAT: Mayo Clinic Alzheimer's Disease expert Ronald Petersen, M.D., will participate in the release of an ambitious national plan to address Alzheimer's disease to attendees of the Alzheimer's Research Summit 2012: Path to Treatment and Prevention. Dr. Petersen is chair of the Advisory Council on Alzheimer's Research, Care, and Services, which was charged with developing a plan called for in the National Alzheimer's Project Act (NAPA), which President Obama signed into law in January 2011.
Several specific actions called for in the plan will be announced, including steps underway to advance research on prevention and treatment efforts; help to ensure United States health care providers have high-quality, up-to-date training and information; and help families and caregivers can use to find the services and support they need.
Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will present the plan and Francis S. Collins, M.D., Ph.D., Director, National Institutes of Health will be in attendance.
WHEN:Tuesday, May 15, 10:30 a.m. EDT: Secretary Sebelius will present the plan. Dr. Petersen will be available for interviews following the presentation.
