Mayo Clinic campuses recognized as Top Performers in 2019 Healthcare Equality Index
ROCHESTER, Minn. — Mayo Clinic locations in Arizona, Florida and Minnesota have been recognized as Top Performers in the 2019 Healthcare Equality Index. The index rates 680 health care facilities nationally on quality and inclusive health care.
The Human Rights Campaign Foundation produces the Healthcare Equality Index, which scores health care facilities on policies and practices dedicated to the equitable treatment and inclusion of LGBTQ patients, visitors and staff. A record number of health care institutions participated in the 12th annual survey.
Mayo Clinic's three campuses were among 148 health care centers rated as Top Performers based on four criteria: nondiscrimination and staff training, patient services and support, staff benefits and policies, and patient and community engagement.
Mayo Clinic in Rochester received a score of 95, as did Mayo Clinic in Arizona. Mayo Clinic in Florida received a score of 90.
"Every day our employees work to help our LGBTQ+ patients and colleagues feel welcomed and valued at Mayo Clinic," says Sharonne Hayes, M.D., director of Diversity and Inclusion at Mayo Clinic. "We raise the bar each year around inclusion, as does the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. We're proud that Mayo Clinic in Arizona, Florida and Rochester are all recognized as Top Performers in the 2019 Healthcare Equality Index."
The Human Rights Campaign Foundation, based in Washington, D.C., works to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people.
