Mayo Clinic in Florida completes 4,000 liver transplants
The transplant team at Mayo Clinic in Florida recently completed the 4,000th liver transplant since the program started in 1998. Mayo Clinic in Florida is the sixth transplant center in the country to do so.
"We are truly honored and proud to reach this milestone," says Burcin Taner, M.D., chair of the Transplant Center at Mayo Clinic in Florida. "As one of the leading liver transplant centers in the country, reaching 4,000 liver transplants reflects a dedicated team that for more than 24 years has consistently provided high quality care to our patients each and every day. All of our Mayo Clinic transplant programs are leading innovative approaches in patient care. For this particular transplant, we used Normothermic Regional Perfusion to preserve the donated organ and achieve a successful outcome. Our patient is recovering from her liver transplant and is expected to leave the hospital five days after her transplant. On behalf of our patients, I would like to express our sincere appreciation to donors and their families who are part of this milestone."
Mayo Clinic in Florida has one of the largest liver transplant programs in the country. The combined volume of the Liver Transplant Program at Mayo Clinic’s campuses in Arizona, Florida and Minnesota makes it the largest overall program in the country. To date, approximately 9,500 liver transplants have been completed at all three Mayo Clinic locations. Mayo Clinic in Florida began its Liver Transplant Program in 1998. The program currently performs heart, lung, kidney and pancreas transplants.
