    Mayo Clinic ranked No. 1 hospital in Florida by U.S. News & World Report

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Mayo Clinic is again ranked the No. 1 hospital in the Jacksonville metro area and Florida in U.S. News & World Report's "Best Hospitals" rankings, which were published on Tuesday, July 27, on the U.S. News & World Report website. Mayo Clinic in Florida has ranked No. 1 in the state of Florida for five of the past six years.

In addition, Mayo Clinic in Florida was rated high-performing in Pulmonology and Lung Surgery.

Mayo Clinic in Florida continues to make significant investments in people, space and technology. Over the next couple of years, Mayo Clinic will invest more than $400 million in capital projects and add more than 360,000 square feet of space for patient care, biomedical research and technology.

Highlights include:

  • Mayo North addition
    This building will be a five-floor, 125,000-square-foot addition with a two-story atrium building link between the Mayo and Cannaday buildings. It will have space for eight operating rooms, as well as procedural space for Cardiology, Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and other departments. Northeast Florida award-winning chefs Matthew and David Medure will open their latest restaurant in the atrium, which includes seating for 200 people, as well as a full-service bar and coffee shop.
  • Integrated oncology facility
    Mayo Clinic will break ground next year on a new $233 million, 200,000-square-foot integrated oncology facility that includes proton beam and carbon ion treatment therapy. Mayo Clinic's carbon ion therapy center will be the first carbon ion facility in North America.
  • Patient parking garage
    This 866-space parking garage, which is adjacent to the Cannaday Building, opened in late 2020, providing much-needed parking capacity and convenience for patients. In addition to the garage, a two-story connector building was constructed that includes about 25,000 square feet of space for retail and others uses to be determined.
  • Emergency Department expansion
    The 12,000-square-foot expansion will contain 14 new emergency department patient rooms and 10 new short-stay and care rooms. The construction also will expand support locations, such as laundry, medication supply and staff space. Construction is scheduled to begin this summer and continue through April 2022.

Mayo Clinic in Rochester earned the No. 1 overall spot nationally on U.S. News & World Report's "Best Hospitals" rankings. This is the sixth consecutive year that Mayo Clinic has been ranked the No. 1 "Best Hospital" nationwide by U.S. News & World Report. Mayo Clinic in Rochester also has been ranked No. 1 in the state of Minnesota since 2012, when U.S. News & World Report first published state rankings. Mayo Clinic in Arizona is ranked No. 1 in the Phoenix metro area and state of Arizona and has held this ranking for nine consecutive years.

This is the 32nd year that U.S. News & World Report conducted a "Best Hospitals" rankings list, which encompasses 16 medical specialties. U.S. News & World Report analyzes data for 5,000 medical centers to determine the rankings
