Mayo Clinic ranked highly among the 'Top Hospitals and Health Care Systems' in DiversityInc's rankings

Mayo Clinic ranked high in the annual DiversityInc rankings of the "Top 50 Companies for Diversity." Mayo was ranked No. 3 among "Top Hospitals and Healthcare Systems for Diversity." This year's survey was the most competitive yet and saw a 32% increase in the number of health care systems participating. This was Mayo Clinic's 12th straight year of being ranked and ties Mayo's highest ranking (No. 3 in 2022).

DiversityInc's annual survey gauges how U.S. companies with more than 1,000 staff members sustain diversity efforts.

The results reflect Mayo's 2023 strategic equity, inclusion and diversity (EID) priorities.

"At Mayo Clinic, our vision is to create a global environment of empowered belonging for everyone. We have made a bold commitment to do this and have strategically prioritized enhancing belonging, increasing representation, dismantling racism and incorporating EID infrastructure across our operations," says Anjali Bhagra, M.D., medical director of Mayo Clinic's Office of Equity, Inclusion and Diversity.

Mayo Clinic has long embraced diversity and inclusion, though more progress is still needed.

"Mayo Clinic is doing many things to address equity, diversity and inclusion, and we will continue to do more," says Gianrico Farrugia, M.D., president and CEO of Mayo Clinic. "The benefits to our patients and our staff are clear. We all know that we're much better when our care teams are diverse, and diverse teams meet the needs of our diverse patients better."

To participate in DiversityInc's "Top Hospitals and Healthcare Systems for Diversity" ranking, Mayo Clinic submitted a detailed self-assessment, including practices and outcomes.

Through the survey, organizations in the health care industry were ranked on:

  • Human capital diversity metrics.
  • Leadership accountability.
  • Talent programs.
  • Workplace practices.
  • Supplier diversity.
  • Philanthropy.

"Our recognition as a top health care system for diversity shows we have made great strides on our EID journey," says Barbara Jordan, administrator for Mayo Clinic's Office of Equity, Inclusion and Diversity. "We are excited for our upcoming data-driven digital innovations that will help us further advance health equity and foster belonging among our staff and patients."
