HEALTH TIP OF THE WEEK
Try these veggie inspirations
Tired of the same old vegetables? Try grilling them. Brush cherry tomatoes, button mushrooms, zucchini slices, red onions and bell peppers with Italian dressing. Place onto skewers and grill over medium heat, turning often, until the vegetables are tender, about 5 to 8 minutes. Serve as a side dish or over brown rice or whole-wheat pasta with a light sauce.

NOW BLOGGING
Nutrition-wise: Deciphering dates on food packages
You may be surprised to hear that dates on food packages are meant to speak to the grocer more so than you.

Speaking of those elevators- would it be possible to do the same for staff? Especially the north Gonda elevators- those of us who have to travel to the upper floors end up riding the elevator for a long time during peak times. Also, when the elevators get that jam packed, I panic and have to get out of the elevator. Differentiating for different floors would make things much easier….would that ever be considered, if even only during peak times?

In regards to the person who was trying to make an appointment but couldn't speak with anyone because the disclosure form was outdated, doesn't this just illustrate how rediculose and massive govermental oversight and regulations have become? What happened to common sense in America?

Doesn't the MPOA supercede any Mayo disclosure form? It doesn't have an expiration date – it would have to be formally revoked by the patient in order for it to be no longer valid.

COMMENT

Regarding the Gonda North elevators: would it be possible to retrofit these elevators with something like the Otis Compass system. In these systems, the users presses their destination, and it will tell you which elevator out of the six to use. The system basically groups passengers together going to the same or similar floors. (ideally suited for areas such as staff elevators, probably not best for patient elevators)

Wow, talk about a quick response! I saw someone measuring the Domitilla shuttle waiting area for a rug this afternoon.

Mayo Classifieds could use a bit more moderation. There are so many items in the incorrect fields… Why is there an approval process if there is no effort to make it correct? Making it accessible outside of work makes the site less exclusive then it already has become. It is really to bad.

COMMENT

It would also be nice to have rugs placed in the Gonda employee entrance on the north side of the building. The anti-skid traction plates in the floors do nothing to help dry shoes off, and as soon as you step from them the floors are quite slippery.

Regarding the question about not being able to schedule an appointment due to no current authorization being on file: As long one can provide 2 "identifiers" (name, DOB, MC#, address, or phone#), authorization is not needed to schedule, reschedule, or cancel appointments. Authorization IS needed if anyone other than the patient is calling to get medical information, or has questions that would require speaking with a medical professional about the patient. If I'm not mistaken, I believe it says right there on the authorization form that it expires one year from the signed date.

Let's not get too picky about the classifieds. I'd rather have them all out of order than not have them at all.

I noticed that the people working on the brick exterior of the heating station are wearing special respirators that look like PAPRs. Is there something unsafe (asbestos, etc.) in the dust? Should employees and patients stay clear of that area when they are working and creating dust?

I was seen in the Emergency Room on 7/4/2015. I just received a bill for that visit yesterday, 8/31/2015. Why the long wait to get a bill for a simple visit to the ER?

"Nothing to see here, just keep moving" Seriously though, is there a single building Mayo owns that has not been repaired yet? Building Restoration has been working on Mayo buildings for something like 4 years now. That must have been one heck of a contract they got. I wonder if there is a relationship between Mayo and Building Restoration or whatever the name is.
