More than 90 articles from 25 countries featured in Mayo Clinic Proceedings: Digital Health journal’s first year

Mayo Clinic Proceedings: Digital Health, an open-access companion journal to the widely read and cited Mayo Clinic Proceedings, is marking its first anniversary, having published more than 90 articles on the digital transformation of healthcare internationally.

Authors published in Mayo Clinic Proceedings: Digital Health's first year represent 25 countries on five continents, and the content has had more than 125,000 downloads.

Mayo Clinic Proceedings: Digital Health focuses on the translation, adaptation and implementation of digital healthcare solutions. It also includes articles addressing the challenges and opportunities of the digital transformation of healthcare. Among the most downloaded articles published in the first year:

"It's unusual for a new scientific journal to have impact of this magnitude during its first year," says Francisco Lopez-Jimenez, M.D., a Mayo Clinic cardiologist and the journal's inaugural editor-in-chief. "This is due in part to the fast growth of interest in digital health and artificial intelligence in healthcare. More importantly, it is also due to the reputation Mayo Clinic has built in this space, becoming an international beacon of rigorous development and implementation of digital health solutions."

In an editorial to mark the one-year anniversary, Gianrico Farrugia, M.D., Mayo Clinic's president and chief executive officer, says the journal has helped to spark digital and platform innovation as well as build the trust that is the foundation of high-quality healthcare.

"In a rapidly evolving field, having access to high quality, peer-reviewed studies is essential for safe and equitable healthcare delivery, and that requires strong editorial leadership from journals such as Mayo Clinic Proceedings: Digital Health," Dr. Farrugia says in the editorial. "It is clear that we are only at the beginning of this digital revolution for healthcare, and that we need to seize the opportunity and lead responsibly to leverage these unprecedented tools and technology for the benefit of patients everywhere."
