ROCHESTER, Minn. — Ryannon Frederick has been named chief nursing officer, Mayo Clinic.

Frederick brings 20 years of experience at Mayo Clinic to the role, including significant leadership experience. She has been chief nursing officer, Mayo Clinic in Florida, since 2016. She began her Mayo Clinic career as part of a nursing internship program in 1999 before joining Mayo as a nurse in 2000. Since then, she's held roles as a nurse educator, manager and administrator, including the role of chief nursing officer of Mayo Clinic Health System's Southwest Minnesota Region.

"I'm honored to be taking this role, leading a team of incredibly talented and passionate nurses," Frederick says. "Each day, they show our patients compassion, integrity and respect in the care they provide, and their excellence is evident in the national recognition they receive for their quality and innovation."

As chief nursing officer for Mayo Clinic, Frederick will partner with Roshy Didehban, chair, Practice Administration, Mayo Clinic, and other Mayo Clinic leaders on strategic initiatives to advance the care of patients and the nursing profession.

"Ryannon is a well-respected nursing leader at Mayo Clinic," says Didehban. "Her experience and expertise will bring a continued focus on engaging staff in Nursing at Mayo Clinic to deliver innovative solutions that continue to deliver exceptional care to our patients in new ways."

To ensure a smooth transition, Frederick will work closely with Pamela O. Johnson, who announced her plans to retire in December after nearly 40 years at Mayo Clinic.

"Pam is a passionate, sincere, visionary leader, who has used her considerable talents and commitment in steadfast dedication to the vision and mission of Mayo Clinic," says Didehban. "Under her leadership, Mayo Clinic's Department of Nursing has been nationally recognized for its strong professional practice, quality outcomes and patient experience."

Frederick earned a master's degree in nursing and health care systems administration from the University of Minnesota and a bachelor's degree in nursing from The University of Iowa.
