“We look forward to collaborating with Mayo Clinic, a top-tier leader in medicine, to ensure the highest-quality patient care in Zhejiang and other regions in China,” says Cai Xiujun, M.D., president, Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital. “We expect this relationship to take Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital’s health care and international collaboration to a new level.”
Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital was founded in 1994 by philanthropist-businessman Sir Run Run Shaw. Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital pioneered the “Shaw Hospital Model,” which incorporates the best of Chinese and western health care management practices. In 2006, it became the first public hospital in China to receive the Joint Commission International accreditation ─ the first of four accreditations. The hospital, with locations in Qingchun and Xiasha, China, has 2,400 beds and serves about 2.6 million patients annually.
Mayo Clinic developed the first integrated, multispecialty group practice more than 150 years ago. Today, Mayo Clinic is the largest nonprofit group practice in the world, serving about 1.3 million patients annually. Mayo Clinic is dedicated to providing patient care with respect, quality and excellence. Mayo Clinic doctors from every medical specialty work together to advance medical knowledge through research and education, and apply that knowledge to medical care.
“Mayo Clinic is pleased to collaborate with Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital to share our knowledge and information,” says David Hayes, M.D., medical director, Mayo Clinic Care Network. “Collaboration is at the heart of both organizations. It benefits health care. It benefits communities. But, most of all, it benefits patients. We look forward to working closely together.”
To become a member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network, Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital underwent a comprehensive evaluation to ensure that it shares with Mayo Clinic a common philosophy, commitment and mission to improve the delivery of health care through high-quality, data-driven, evidenced-based medical care.
