Women’s Health Specialty Center Opens at Mayo Clinic in Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Mayo Clinic in Florida has opened a Women’s Health Specialty Center dedicated to providing women with the resources they need to improve their well-being, based on their health needs, genetic traits, lifestyle and personal preferences. The center is an extension of the enterprise Mayo Clinic Center for Women’s Health, and will use a multidisciplinary approach to treatment for a number of women’s health issues such as menopause, sexual health, hormone therapy, bone density, cardiology and much more.
"I am excited that we are building on the outstanding work done at Mayo Clinic over many decades with regards to women’s health," says Jackie Thielen, M.D., general internal medicine physician. "Mayo Clinic was one of the first health institutions to have an integrated women’s health practice."
The multidisciplinary center will collaborate with other divisions and departments at Mayo Clinic to incorporate medical care plans individualized to women, integrative health and lifestyle services into their models of care.
"Women are not smaller versions of men, our illnesses can be different," says Thielen. "Even though we experience some of the same types of illnesses, we may experience them very differently purely by how our genetics, bodies and hormones work. We’re giving women an opportunity to see experts that understand that."
This extension may also allow opportunities to assist the Women's Health Research Center at Mayo Clinic in advancing understanding and optimizing the care of women.
